Why this number

Self-sovereign identity (SSI) is the missing trust layer of the digital world. Cryptographically secure, tamper-evident identity that the person — not the platform — controls. Without it, every digital interaction inherits the trust deficit of whoever is running the intermediating server.

100 million is the threshold where SSI stops being a niche standard and starts being infrastructure people expect. It's roughly 1 in 80 humans alive today. That's not enough to be everyone — it's enough to make "you can have your own identity" the default expectation instead of a curiosity.

2034 is ten years out from when I committed to the goal. Long enough to compound. Short enough that I have to act every quarter. The math says we need to roughly triple year-over-year for the next decade, which is hard but not unprecedented for infrastructure that crosses the chasm.

How we get there

Through OCME, primarily. Every member of the ecosystem mints a DID. Every piece of content gets DIDs. Every play, every payment, every showrunner agreement adds DIDs to the registry. The multiplier per member matters as much as the member count — currently ~25× per member, climbing as we ship new DID types (revenue receipts, playlists, license records).

Adjacent levers: the Trust Over IP Foundation standards work, partnerships that bring entire creator cohorts in at once (Soulscape ~200, Guild ~2,000, Gato ~600), and any DID-issuing application built on top of the same infrastructure.

History
